In the wake of the controversial Rachel Dolezal situation, Sarah Valentine shares her experience of learning to find her identify as a black woman after 27 years of being socialized and raised as white. The article, which resonated with my own challenges as a bi-racial raised in a predominantly white environment, highlights the complexity of identity, positionality, self image, and the psychological angst of being the 'other' in a highly racialized society.
