differences/similarities and perks to their classroom. Teachers of diverse students should focus on how students learn and recognize that each student brings a different background to the learning environment.

       This article was extremely relevant to those of us teaching here in Oregon, and in Washington county. It is also just good knowledge for any teacher to know! As role models, teachers need to set the example of how to accept and embrace cultural diversity and how to emphasize its importance. I think it also reminds us to be empathetic to students who are shy and chose not to share. Certainly some good points to remember!

Key Points: Balancing equity of resources and space in schools. Diversify student populations. Ensure all students have access to excellent education. Some groups are opposing the moves, because of fears of their own students success changing. There are two schools in particular that are very different. One is mostly white, lots of money, and overcrowded, with a very long waiting list. The second school has much more space, is mostly minority students, and low income. It is the hope of a newly created citizen council to move the boundaries in order to balance things out a bit more. So that all students have a chance at an excellent education.

Relevance: This is what is happening across the country. Sometimes to balance populations and resources, such as these schools in New York, or even with the addition of new school buildings, and the redrawing of attendance boundaries, as was recently seen in Beaverton.
