Key Points: Donald Trump's presidential victory leads to an uncertainty in education. Trump has no track record or any relationship within education and thus provides no framework for how his policies will impact education.Trump did propose a $20 billion federal plan to dramatically expand school choice for low-income students but does not go into any detail on how to incorporate the proposal. The biggest policy Trump will need to address is the Every Student Succeeds Act. The ESSA is a policy by the Obama Administration in order to guide schools assessments and standards of success. The ESSA provides significant federal funding into schools and has been a hot topic of debate for Republicans.

Relevance: Not only is there significant social fallout from this election, but Republicans have a tumultuous track record with education. Trump has no track record within educational policies and has not provided much guidance in his plans. Common Core is a work in progress and federal funding for schools has, is and will always be a constant debate. Educators must be aware of policy changes and stay on top of educational politics. This election is one for the history books and educators and the people of America will soon be facing the fallout.

  1. Eliminating the Department of Education has been a Republican talking point and platform position since the Department was created. But what have republican presidents done.... I urge you all to look into the history here. There is not much to worry about.
