“A passionate, personal case for education”
Source: TED
By: Michelle Obama
April 2009
Key Points:
The key points in Mrs. Obama’s speech, is the importance of
education. Not just to further one’s self, but to further society and
communities as a whole.
·
Mrs. Obama mentions the importance for women to
be educated. To pursue avenues that may not have been previously available to
them.
·
She mentions several female artists and doctors
who were influential in their fields.
·
Although she focused on women, she does insist
that education for our youngest children, both boys and girls, is extremely
important.
Intended Audience: Everyone
Relevance: Even thought this speech was recorded in 2009, it
is just as important now, maybe more so, as it was then. Seeing increasing
class sizes, limited budgets, and elective programs being cut, shows that we
need to refocus our attention on education. Mrs. Obama’s words will be true for
a long time to come, until we as a community, a nation, and the world, wakes up
and realizes that a good education can solve a lot of issues that are currently
being faced.
