Can a President Trump get rid of Common Core?

Key Points: States have always selected their own standards. Race to the Top is over, and No Child has been replaced by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).

Relevance: The Republicans are going to have control of the White house and congress. Will they take their fight to the Common core State Standards?

  1. Eliminating the Department of Education has been a Republican talking point and platform position since the Department was created. But what have republican presidents done.... I urge you all to look into the history here. There is not much to worry about.

  2. I don't see the Common Core as the problem, except for the rigorous demands that are placed on some populations. What seems to be the opportunity is the "ESSA" Act that replaced the No Child Left Behind Act that has seemingly promoted students from grade level to grade level without students knowing grade level content. We now have a population of students who have been pushed through without the appropriate skills to succeed.

  3. I think Trump made an 'interesting' choice for his Secretary of Education, Betsy DeVos. I will be posting an article in relation to this topic. I think change is coming, however what that will look like is hard to say at this point.
