Presidency and Education

Key Points: Donald Trump's early projected focuses are not on education. He may focus on ending common core, expanding school choice, reforming higher education, and doing away with gun-free school zones.

Relevance: The presidential election is on everyone's minds this week as there are many changes about to happen. Education will be affected, but it is unsure currently what those effects may be.

  1. Eliminating the Department of Education has been a Republican talking point and platform position since the Department was created. But what have republican presidents done.... I urge you all to look into the history here. There is not much to worry about.

  2. I agree that there is probably not much to worry about in terms of the Department of Education being dismantled. My worry is that it will be so messed with that we end up teaching subjects that are not as academically rigorous as they should be, such as creationism. This is already taught in several states in the south. My fear is that this type of subject becomes commonplace, much like norming the present untenable situation in Washington.
