  • The Homework Debate

  • Education.com
  • Updated on Jul 29, 2013

  • The key points of this article are focused around whether or not students should receive home work to complete at home, and how much should be given.

  • In this day and age of digital "everything", how important is it for a child to be given loads of homework on a daily basis. Does the completion of rote homework act as a reinforcer for school? Does homework go against what we are trying to teach our students about the actuality of understanding?

  1. As we all realize, the homework debate continues to be a forefront issue. Do or do not give homework? That is the question. I, myself, struggle to answer this question. I like how the article examines the thought process of students in relation to homework. By assigning homework, the article mentions students view that as a punishment, which in result automatically gives the assigned work a bad name and reputation. I agree with this statement. I too think schoolwork should be completed at school because it is extremely important for everyone’s mental health to have a break. I cannot imagine having to take my entire workload home every single night. However, in reality I do understand occasionally this needs to be the case. While we as teachers should aim to not assign massive amounts of homework, the time will arise where it is necessary to do so. i believe homework should be assigned sparingly and only if there is absolutely no time to complete it in class and/or if a student needs to complete make up work.
